40% savings in PCF licensing cost by moving to OpenShift using Brillio’s Migration Factory
An eminent US-based MNC in healthcare and insurance, found itself facing a complex challenge following a significant acquisition – they had to contend with the management of multiple containers scattered across their footprint.
Their quest was clear – to streamline the process by consolidating all these containers onto a single, powerful Kubernetes platform. The aim was not only to simplify their container management but also to drastically reduce the considerable expenses incurred in licensing and maintenance.
The urgency of consolidating into this singular Kubernetes realm couldn’t be overstated, as it was the key to avoiding massive additional annual licensing costs, potentially reaching figures in the millions of dollars.
With over 3000 applications currently in operation on their existing PCF platform, this required an accelerated approach. But the challenge didn’t end there. They also possessed native PCF tiles, intricately designed for their previous domain, which now needed to be re-architected to a different platform.
With a goal to successfully transition over 3000 applications from their current PCF environment, Brillio, a trusted partner, was chosen to help on the back of extensive experience in PCF migration.
Brillio’s Code Scanner proved instrumental in a comprehensive analysis of the existing PCF implementation. This crucial step laid the foundation for the migration journey. With the sheer volume of applications in mind, Brillio leveraged its factory model to streamline the migration process. The migration plan ensured that every application would find its new home seamlessly.
Brillio helped in establishing an automated CI/CD pipeline, a crucial element for maintaining efficiency and speed during the transition. In parallel, a complex target infrastructure environment was crafted, ensuring that the new home for these applications was perfectly suited to their needs.
A brand-new firewall tool was designed to port existing firewall rules from the PCF environment and seamlessly migrate them to the OpenShift platform, eliminating any potential disruptions. Not stopping at that, Brillio also spearheaded the development of a cutting-edge microservice responsible for generating sealed secrets, further enhancing the security of the new environment.
In addition to these technical achievements, Brillio took the reins in program management, guiding dozens of product groups through this intricate transition process.
Brillio’s Code Scanner Tool was a game-changer, cutting the analysis effort by a remarkable 70%. Paired with our predictable migration plan, a seamless transition was ensured. This migration to OpenShift resulted in significant licensing and compute cost savings. Additionally, our approach lead to a reduction in code maintenance team size and consolidated technical debt, making the journey not only efficient but also cost-effective.
