How Brillio unified analytics for a global healthcare leader

  • A global healthcare company operating in over 80 countries needed to modernize fragmented business intelligence tools and reporting workflows.
  • BI content was scattered across Power BI, Qlik, Tableau, and SharePoint, creating governance silos and delaying access to critical KPIs.
  • Brillio deployed Metric Insights on AWS as a centralized portal, integrating all existing BI tools into one secure, governed interface.
  • The solution delivered shorter deployment times, reduced infrastructure costs, faster KPI access, and a lower environmental footprint enterprise-wide.

Fragmented BI tools slowing decisions across global operations

Challenge

A leading global healthcare company, operating in over 80 countries and focused on defeating chronic diseases and promoting sustainable healthcare, had built its analytics function across years of accumulated tooling. By the time the organization set out to advance its cloud-first analytics strategy as part of a broader digital transformation initiative, its business intelligence landscape had fractured into something difficult to govern and harder still to act on.

Business intelligence content was dispersed across Power BI, Qlik, Tableau, and SharePoint. Each tool operated in relative isolation, creating data silos that hindered governance, obscured visibility into critical KPIs, and prevented teams from moving at the speed the business required. Without a single governed interface, decision-making became reactive rather than proactive. Analysts and business teams spent time reconciling reports instead of reading them. Manual processes multiplied. The overhead compounded.

The problem was not the tools themselves. It was the absence of any structure that connected them. As data volumes grew across regions and functions, the complexity of managing reporting and analytics grew alongside it. The organization needed a unified BI platform capable of pulling Power BI, Qlik, Tableau, and SharePoint into one coherent, governed experience, one that could enhance data accessibility, streamline reporting, and support real-time, data-driven decisions across a company that spans more than eight decades of country operations.

Solution

Brillio was selected as the implementation partner based on its deep expertise in AWS architecture, governance, cost optimization, and its proven track record delivering enterprise-grade BI modernization for global organizations. The approach centered on deploying Metric Insights on AWS as the foundation of a scalable, secure, centralized analytics portal.

The architecture was designed with flexibility built in from the start. Two deployment models were supported: a single-node setup hosted on Amazon EC2, running Docker containers, which provided simplicity and cost efficiency for smaller environments and proofs of concept; and a cluster mode built on Kubernetes (EKS), which offered advanced container orchestration with auto-scaling, high availability, and fault tolerance to support the demands of global operations. At the data layer, we implemented Amazon RDS with MySQL or PostgreSQL, ensuring reliable, compliant, and cost-efficient storage.

Delivery followed three structured environment phases: Development, QA, and Production. Before implementation began, our teams ran a series of co-innovation workshops with business and IT stakeholders. These sessions defined reporting challenges, established KPI frameworks, evaluated existing BI tools, and assessed infrastructure readiness for AWS deployment. The workshops also produced the decision to start with the single-node EC2 and Docker configuration as the optimal initial architecture.

During the co-innovation phase, we worked closely with the client’s teams to design a solution blueprint that integrated Metric Insights with the existing BI ecosystem. The portal’s governance models, user interface, and access controls were customized to fit the company’s operational and compliance standards. Once development and QA validation were complete, the production rollout deployed the fully optimized solution, fine-tuned for reliability, scalability, and compliance across global markets.

Faster insights, lower costs, and stronger data governance

Outcomes

  • Automated provisioning on AWS EC2 and Docker shortened deployment times, simplifying and accelerating the go-live process for global teams.
  • The single-node architecture significantly reduced infrastructure and operational costs while meeting current analytical demands without compromising performance.
  • Teams across global operations gained faster access to KPIs and dashboards, enabling proactive decision-making and improving overall time-to-value.
  • Cloud-based deployment on AWS reduced on-premises hardware dependency, lowering the company’s overall environmental footprint across enterprise operations.
