A national grocery brand was looking for a partner to build a user interface for developers to more efficiently provision environments, which would integrate with Albertsons’ ServiceNow configuration management database.
Our client’s Engineering team’s provisioning process was a slow and complex experience comprised of 30 ServiceNow forms to provision a single environment for an application, taking 3-4 weeks to complete. The client customized a solution in ServiceNow, but didn’t solve the problem, as updates took a long time to deploy and the UI lacked maturity.
The project focused on creating a rich developer experience through the design and iterative engineering of an external developer portal. All environment provisioning parameters were condensed onto a single screen with a one-click submission feature. A design thinking approach was employed to ensure user needs were prioritized. The portal was integrated with SNOW via API, with environment provisioning requests continuing to be stored in SNOW. The orchestration between SNOW and the environment provisioning platform remained unchanged.
Coming out of phase 01, we had a robust backlog of user stories to address on our roadmap. Through meaningful collaboration with the client sponsors and the Product owner, we determined key focus areas for phase 02. Additionally, we worked to integrate the look and feel established in the phase 01 into an existing legacy design system in need of modernization.
