In your career, knowing when to pivot is essential; however, it is more complicated than we imagine.
After seven to eight years of working what’s the single factor that will lead you to change your career? Over the years, I’ve realized that the only move that matters is the next one.
So, how do you reach the next level in your career? I hear this question quite frequently, regardless of the industry or field they are working in. Of course, an ambitious professional will want to know how to get ahead in their career. However, what you need to realize is everyone starts out with different strengths and skill-gaps, so the best advice for getting to that next level you so desire is customized for each person.
There is a general process that almost everyone looking to grow their career should do; to take a step back, analyze their strengths and decide what they need to do to reach the next level of their career. That said, in today’s rapidly evolving workplace, where technologies change at breakneck speed, it’s essential to ensure your knowledge and skills are kept current.
The best companies have the best people. You will find that once you are keen to invest in yourself, the organizational ecosystem (your managers and the learning interventions) also invest in you. That’s because more and more organizations and leaders within these organizations realize it’s important to invest in your growth.
