About the client

The client is a global medical devices company headquartered in San Jose, California. They reimagine and reinvent the way orthodontic and restorative treatment is presented and delivered to millions of people around the world. They manufacture 3D digital scanners and clear aligners used in orthodontics.

Customer Challenge

The client needed to migrate its existing infrastructure to Azure. Low bandwidth connectivity and relatively large database size created a unique scenario where we had to be creative with the migration process.
The existing infrastructure provided very little insight or visibility into systems or data and did not prioritize accordingly.

The following parameters signify some of the challenges the client faced that prompted the migration to Azure:

  • Very high system provisioning time
  • Very little visibility or control over own systems and data
  • Limited DR functionality – DR was only available on site-level. To activate DR, the entire primary site had to be down before
    DR could be activated
  • Aging hardware and network capabilities

The proven solution, bundled with cutting-edge tools, was the right catalyst for discovering the current ecosystem and enabling both the migration to Azure, as well as the managed services post-migration.

  • Setup SAP environment Azure to drive DevOps-based automation and ease the provisioning/deployment effort
  • Hostile Transition: Leveraged Azure Databox to reduce the dependency on the current infrastructure (first of its kind for SAP workloads)
  • Leveraged the proprietary Cloud Implementation Platform (CLIPTM) and pre-built automation scripts to accelerate the overall migration process
  • Bi-directional integration between the client’s ITSM platform with to leverage service catalogs as part of with pre-defined SOPs and scripts to resolve issues at a faster rate.

Business Impact

The migration to Azure reduced the provisioning time to less than half, enabling the client to rapidly spin up VMs for applications and even full-scale environments for integration testing and rapid prototyping.

It has provided greater flexibility and capabilities, enabling the client to perform application-level DR, along with site-level DR. The transition to Azure allowed the use of Azure Express Route, leveraging much higher bandwidth and throughput.
